Question for People Living In NY

Bit of a odd question but I am about to pick up a 1997 Seadoo challenger jet boat for next to nothing. He says he has a transferable registeration in his name. Now i know that is good for jet skis but I am getting conflicting awnsers. Per google search it says 1987 and newer and anything over 14ft has a title in ny this thing is 18ft all my other boats had titles never got one from NY before. Does anyone on here have expreience with this??

Tell him to call you back when he also has a title in his name, and you will pay him an extra $200.

Also, jet boats are insured at the higher jet ski rate. About double a boat with a prop

If he has a registration document in his name, and the document says "transferrable", you should be good to go. If a title is needed to transfer it, it won't say "transferrable". Simple thing - have him send you a scan of the back of the document.

Now, OTOH, the rest of the story is what do YOU require for the state you live in?

Not a way to go. They won't have a clue. They won't give you any info on the particular vehicle, even if they know the registration number. Plus, even if you know the year, make and model the answer they give you may or may not be correct.

Call them 10 times and if you get the same answer 10 times, it MIGHT be correct.

Ok thanks for the info! And here NJ usually a'boat' has a title however jet skis and small watercraft have no titles its a bill of sale notorized with a current registration.

I have had plenty of jet boats never a issue just my first one from another state. Also he only wants $1000 its been sitting for years i know what im getting into ahahaa its clean tho twin rotax 787s.

I may hit you up if you know what you're doing...I got a "free" '96 with a 787 that I'm going to try to get running in a few weeks with my kid. "A simple 2 stroke would be the perfect project for us!" said my idiot self before knowing what I was getting into...
