I'm a new poster (long time lurker) and am really impressed with the knowledge and willingness to help of Rodbolt and lots of other folks on this forum. Heres my question:

2000 model 225 OX66 (2 stroke with EFI). Low hours. I am recent purchaser. Motor has run great for about 30 - 40 hours, and still runs great with one new problem. If you push the motor to WOT and trim it out for maximun speed (about 5300 rpm and 43 mph on a heavy 2001 BW Outrage), after about 2 or 3 minutes, the motor just dies. It doesn't hesitate, boog down, miss, slow down or anything of the sort--it just flat out dies. After the boat comes to a stop, it starts right back up and runs fine, unless you push it to WOT, in which case it does the same thing again. Here is some info that may or may not be significant:

Boat had old gas (probably 6 -8 months, and probably w/o stabilizer) when I first started it up (about 30 hours ago). I put in this OMC cleaner/stabilizer stuff that Yamaha dealer told me to put in. I also added about 75 gallons of fresh new high-test gas to the 25 gallons of old gas. Yamaha tech drained old fuel from the saddle tank on the port side of the engine.

Engine started right up and has run fine for about 30 - 40 hours. I have run Ring-Free in pretty healthy doses in each tankfull.

Also, before I started the engine, I put on a new fuel filter (outside the engine). It is one of the new Yamaha finer partical filters (about the size of an old (big) oil filter for a car engine). I'm wondering if (hoping that) it could be that the old gas clogged up the fuel filter and all I need to do is replace it with a new fuel filter.

In any event, all replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
