Tabman II,

I have your 12W x 9L tabs on my 1979 28' 6,600 lb Formula. Width wise, that is all that will fit there as it has twins, a narrow beam and very deep v. My question is, do you have other plates I can put in w/o having to replace the rams? I am thinking the sport type plates but typically they have twin rams on each tab. Do you have the longer tabs that work with a single ram?

Re: Question for Tabman II

Ralph,

My name is Tom McGow and I also work at Bennett Marine (with Tabman II). I happened to be over here at I-boats this morning seeing what is going on, so I thought I could answer your question. I hope Tabman II doesn’t mind!

A relatively easy way to get additional lift on a boat like your T’bird that is fitted with 12” x 9” Tabs would be to swap the planes out for 12” x 12” planes. They will use the the same mounting plates on the transom and the same actuators (rams). The actuators will stay in the same place on the transom (no drilling any new holes at all). You will simply take the mounting plates off the transom that hold the Tabs on, and remove the screws that hold the actuator to the Tabs Then take the new 12” x 12” planes and use the existing mounting plates, reattach the actuators and you are done. It will take about 10 minutes per side. The part numbers for the new planes are TPO1212 and you will need two (one for each side). Check with your favorite dealer about having them order them for you. The 12” x 12” planes have 30 percent more surface area and will make a good difference in how your T’bird responds to the Tabs. We do make a larger 12” x 16” Sport Tab, but as you suspect its longer chord (fore to aft length) requires two actuators and would and expense and lots of work as compared to swapping for the 12” x 12” Trim Planes.

I hope you find this helpful. Let Tabman II or myself know if you need any additional information.

Best regards,
Tom McGow
Director of Client Services
Bennett Marine

Re: Question for Tabman II

Thanks Tom! I'll do just that.

One more question if you don't mind: How difficult is it to add the position indicators to the system? I've seen the indicators but what does it use for the postion transducer?

Re: Question for Tabman II

Ralph,

The sensor for the Trimdicators is in the Top Cap of the actuator. You remove the old cap and replace it with the one that comes in the kit and route the wires forward. It is quite easy. Here is a link to the instructions for them at our website http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/onlinetrim.htm

Let us know if you have any questions hen you are making the upgrade, we will be delighted to help.

Tom McGow
Bennett Marine
