Ok, I hate to be talking about Christmas all the time this early in the season... but I want to ask the gals on the board about something I admit to be really dumb about... purses...

Two months ago we were in Oak Park, IL and we walked into a Coach store. Now, I gotta admit, the prices for those bags seemed outrageous - to me. But, on the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to drop that kind of $ on technology -- so really, its up to the person what they feel is "worth it."

I am thinking about getting mrs. eeboater a nice purse/pouch/bag for Christmas and I have been considering something by Coach. But now that I have been doing some shopping I'm swaying between Coach and Louis Vuitton...

So, question for the GUYS (and gals I guess) is - do you think I'm nuts to be spending that much on a gift which is only a bag?

And the question for the GALS is which one would you prefer, Louis Vuitton or Coach? OR - is there another one out there that I don't know about since I'm "Fashion dumb."

Sean

I would ask her questions about what you saw at Oak park,IL.. Gradually turn the conversation to maybe some jewlery and work in the hand bag and put an example of one you were looking at and ask her what kind caught her eye.. Me, I would try to find the one she wants on E-bay.. I know sounds cheap, but you never know.. Or just come out and ask her what she would like.. I have seen some really nice bags at $1200. and up. But I'm not a big spender.. I'd rather take a trip.. My last leather bag was $169.00 and it was in a pallet of new shoes that I bought for $35.00 at auction. Well Good Luck

go with a coach purse that you like and you'll be good to go. i thought the same- why so expensive, what makes them good? but i'll also drop $100 at the bar at a moment's notice. i bought my wife her first coach purse a few years ago, and it was the money gift- she loved it. i followed with a second one then next year- she loved that as well. if you have terrible taste, she can always bring it back and exchange for a different one.

ee, a purse is a VERY important part of a woman's wardrobe. The last Louis Vuitton I had lasted me nearly 10 years and I was proud to carry it. Coach makes an equally well made handbag.

The style of the hand bag is just as important as the designer. Do you know what style she wants? If not, get what you think she'd like, just make sure she can return it. And, don't get hurt feelings if she does either, like I said its a very personal thing.

Also, its bad luck to give someone a purse or a wallet without sticking a dollar bill in it.

I say go for it if you can afford it. She'll love it for years! :)

LMAO KG - you a crazy MOFO!!!

LF - I'm glad to hear that you have actually owned a Louis Vuitton in the past and that you liked it. Mrs. Eeboater isn't shallow in that she likes flashy things, rather she fits the decription that you were talking about - proud to carry it around.

I think I have an idea of what I want to get her. To save myself from spending 1200 on a bag, they have like $450 clutches which a person would take with them for a "night out on the town" or a special event like a fancy dinner. All it would be able to hold is a money case, cell phone and a couple more odds and ends. I figure if that one goes over well, I can do it again down the road an get something a bit better.

Its also nice to know that it isn't all hype and they do actually last a while. I saw a video on LV's website of them making these things... cripes, I think they don't put that much work into assembling Bentleys!!

They have a LV store about an hour and a half from me - so I think I'm going to recruit my lil bro to come with me and actually LOOK at them before buying one... Talk about two fish outa water in that store...

Ron: Go to these websites:

http://www.coach.com
http://www.louisvuitton.com

Before you click the links, first imagine the biggest purchase you ever made for your boat (quantitiy of dollars involved)....prepare for sticker shock... then click.

Sean

Re: Question for the gals... (LF, Bassy, BD et all)

Dont buy any off ebay, they are all fakes. My bro got taken on one. The person swore it was real, had good feedback, etc. Ebay was no help.

I would never spend that kind of money on a purse. My wife is able to get good fakes when she goes home to Thailand, and always has plenty of purses.

Funny thing is, those fakes are just as good quality as the real one. She has a fake Luis Vutton for 5 years and it is in perfect shape.

If I bought her a real one, she would like it, but probably be mad about that kind of money. She would prefer the fake purse with the cash I saved inside! :D

Ken

Like LadyFish said, style and size of purse is important, to be on the safe side look for the more classic styles, they never go out of fashion, Coach purses are made of a very high quality saddle leather, treat them right and they'll be around for many many years, if you can afford it, its a good idea to get a matching wallet at the same time ;)

Jewellery is always nice, but from my humble experiences, jewellery tends to be treasured and adorned much more at valentines or at anniversaries. :)

Edit: The fakes are not registered and warranteed.

Point of view/reality check....$450.00 is NOT the price of a “clutch”, it's a boat payment!!!!! Next $1200.00 is NOT the price of a quality purse it's a house payment!!!!! That is, all things being relative and in my opinion. ;) ;) :)

Depends on your wife, ee. My wife would be pissed if I spent big money on a purse. Now a diamond, or other precious stone, that is a different story. So the question really is, what is your wife like. What would SHE want.

Oh, and by the way, the middle bag in Kagee's collection would probably look good on you, EE.

Re: Question for the gals... (LF, Bassy, BD et all)

EE, as a young man a mentor gave me this advice on getting Christmas, etc. presents for wife.

Always buy from a name brand store, spend as much as you can afford, and make sure the item is returnable. Notice no advise on what to buy -- doesn't matter she can return it and get what she wants.

It works! Women like the thought (and $$) you put into getting the gift. They know we are no good at getting what they want/need; so, the thought is what counts!

Might add - I missed my wife's birthday this last spring (so much going on just sliped) so I got a waffle/pancake grill for my birthday! Told her I was saving up two birthdays so I can afford that new 338 mag. she has always wanted -- as you can tell it didn't work.

Hang on... if I am anybody, I'll be the dude on the far right. In fact, I have a chest and abs quite similar to that.

Gonna be in a Fruit of the Loom commercial next month.

Methinks since I can afford it, I'll just do it and get a receipt. Deal with the reprocussions later. Plus, I'll give it to her with her family around... her mom will be uber-impressed:d

Sean

Give me a tackle box anyday and I'll show you how to accessorize.. Just try me.. Half the time, I throw my stuff in a tool box, tackle box or in a hand bag.. But I have to admit I do have some nice purse's.. I have 2 aligator bags, and sequin hand bags.. I have nice clothes, but living out in the country, who is going to them. I guess I do have a female side also..
I was told I clean up well..
I just can't stand waisting so much time putting make-up on..
I'll have to get my tackle box out and show you, you'll get a good laugh.. It raining here, so as soon as it clears up..
