Is it ok to use fuel line from a primer bulb kit to repipe interior gas piping at engine since it is cheaper than the fuel line hose that you buy at dealers. Is it rated to be used inside the engine compartment

Re: Question of outboard fuel hose

It all depends where you buy the kits from and manufacturer ... best bet is to go to auto parts store and buy high pressure fuel injection hose ... just my thoughts

Personally I would just buy the correct hose and be done with it. Safety and peace of mind are my top 2 reasons for that and in that order.

I totally agree as I have seen the "grey" hoses get hard and stiff.

Re: Question of outboard fuel hose

Wow, I thought that I was thrifty! Part store charges 67 cents per foot for their "premium" fuel hose in 5/16". Get that stuf @ your size. I think fuel injected tube is overkill here. There is only a few pounds of pressure here, possibly NEGATIVE pressure most of the time with a mechanical/vac fuel pump that sips out the fuel.

Some folks use 1/4" on a 5/16" application so the hoses will be tight and not leak. Hell to install. Super for 3 years, but then the stress causes cracks on the inside which make the hose degrade/leak/pop for sure. Quicker in COLD weather. Then, if it starts leaking on the river, you got a serious problem that is harder to fix under stressful and possibly dangerous circumstances.

For $4, Install an in-line fuel filter as well. In my old o/b with vacuumed fuel pump, it's under the hood -- after the quick connect and just before fuel enters the pump.
