Re: Question on bearing

You a looking at a seal.
Milky oil can indicate a leak. Pretty easy to replace. Pull it out and put new seal (s) in.
What model is it off?

Re: Question on bearing

Have the gear case pressure and vacuumed checked after you do that to see if you have anymore leaks.

Re: Question on bearing

Someone has went to parts hose and replaced that seal as it a plain metal seal(green coated), not a S/S one. Thats why you use marine/chemical grade seals so they wont rust out.

Take out the metal ring and the whole seal comes out.

Re: Question on bearing

That's another seal. That motor uses back to back seals for the upper drive shaft.

Re: Question on bearing

Give a good blast on those bearings of some wd40 or something as you dont want any seal parts being left in them. Post back when you get the seals as they must be installed back to back as Boobie says, that means facing them the correct way and putting them in straight so they dont get crooked

Re: Question on bearing

Ok so I got the seals out....I just wanna make sure the area that they sit in is in good shape before I order the new ones. I see some scratches near the top. Is that okay? I imagine the seal will take care of that. photo-5.jpg

Re: Question on bearing

Yep should be fine so long as there isnt a long gash down into it.
I run some gasket sealant around seals when i reinstall

I feel safer just replacing it. There is a decent gash about halfway down. What is the best way to get it out?

i dont know, thats why i put a thin gasket covering on them.
You could try epoxy. Ive used that on a pitted driveshaft before, it seemed successfully
