I have a 1987 19ft sea sprite bow rider. It is a v hull. The motor is a mercruiser model 470 170hp in\outboard. The motor was rebuilt about a year ago. Is there any performance parts I can put into action on this boat to get more speed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Eric

Re: Question on boosting hp

Sounds to me like an engine question.

Re: Question on boosting hp

This subject turns up now and then.

Short version of answer is 'If you want a more powerful engine, buy a more powerful engine'.

The sea is not the right place for experiments. One sure thing if you fit performance parts, is that your engines' longlasting abilities suffers.

If you're 170'er had a bunch of horses laying around in there which could be activated easy or 'for free', I'm pretty sure Kieckhafer would have done that..

Tucke87,

That same basic engine was later offered as a 185. I believe the major difference was the carb./intake manifold.

That engine is basically 1/2 of a Ford 460 cid. engine. All the internals, except the crank and block, are stock issue Ford 460.

Anything you can do to make it breathe beter will help.
