I got my 2007 6 hp motor back from the mechanic with the new lower end on it. He told me that it bogged down when put in gear and suggested a carb cleaning and maybe adjustment to air/fuel mixture screw. I decided to do it myself and got it to idle without stalling when you turn the throttle all the way down. Question I have is is there a factory setting for how many turns out the mixture screw should be. I think I turned it out 1.5 turns from where it was. Then I had to set the idle screw almost all the way out. Is there a standard setting for this also.

Haven't been near a 6 in eons but 1.5 is a good number (from 2 finger tight.....don't know what "from where it was" means) as is 1.25 and all points in between. My manual on a larger engine states that the low speed adjustment is set correctly when you can hammer down on the throttle at rest in gear and the engine will take the throttle and run with it, not bog down. The leanest (farthest in) you can set the screw and have that happen is where you want to be.

On larger engines the idle screw changes the timing and advancing the timing causes the idle to increase. On other engines and probably your 6, the adjustment merely moves the carb linkage like you were giving it the throttle with your tiller stick speed control.

With your low speed at 1.5, having to run out the screw to get a decent idle, which by the way should be around 700 rpm....fast enough not to die when you shift, but slow enough to shift with out a clunk, sounds like you have something still not right.

Have you checked the compression? Have you done a lot of slow speed running or long term sitting up unused with this engine?
