Question on fuel

I recently bought a 2005 Chaparrel 204 ssi, and heard from someone that I should only use fuel from a marina because there is not ethanol in it, and that ethanol is bad for a boat. Is there any truth in that? Also, I'm keeping my boat at my lakehouse, so there may be times that it doesn't get run for a few weeks. I was going to run premium fuel, should I use stabil in every fill up? Thanks Jeff

Re: Question on fuel

oh how I WISH that were true..... I'd feel much better about getting raped buying fuel if there were a way to avoid ethanol.... yep if it's gonna sit use stabil or startron

Re: Question on fuel

there are plenty of other ethanol threads here, do a search. use your boat and don't let the gas sit in there for a long time and you will be fine.

Re: Question on fuel

what they said... and... don't waste your money on premium unless your engine specifically requires a premium grade fuel, as indicated by the manufacturer...

Re: Question on fuel

Unless your boat and owners manual have stickers plastered all over it saying that it requires premium gas then don't waste your money. in a 2005 you can run ethanol without any worries and the procedure is no different than ethanol free gas, if you leave either one sitting in the tank over a long period of time untreated then it can breakdown causing headaches for you later.

Welcome to iboats!

Do not drink the kool aid!!

Do not use diesel, bio-fuel, jet fuel, e-85 or water in your fuel tank ...... pump gas works excellent;)

Re: Question on fuel

somemarina's have ethanol-free fuel because ethanol causes problems for a lot of boats under certain (but common) conditions. It costs more. And regular marina gas costs more than gas stations.

But most boaters find they have to use the E-10. Unless you go through all your gas in 30 days or so, you should treat it with startron, stabil, etc. Although the stuff seems expensive by the bottle, you use only a few onces at a time so it doesn't add that much to the cost.

Re: Question on fuel

Where do you guys keep getting this ethanol that goes bad in 30 days? Are they mixing it with milk?
