I read through How To: Tune-up Your Points Ingition and the author is very insistent about making sure you do the wires one by one.

I am unclear as to why. If I know my engine's firing order, and I know where the rotor is pointing, and cylinder 1 is just before top dead center, I can make sure the wire goes from that part of the cap to plug 1, etc. Is this really that easy to mess up the firing order of the engine?

Ayuh,.... I've spent a wasted afternoon chasin' a skip in a SBC, to find I'd switched two plug wires on the cap,.....
It was the 3rd time I checked, I found it,......

Anyways,.... The stickies are written for folks who've never looked at an internal combustion motor, other than to maybe add oil, 'n they managed to get it into the right hole,.....
If yer confident, just skip over the more basic stuff,..... ;)

What I do....is take a sharpie and mark on the cap, the firing order and then do the same on the wires, it avoids embarrassing things like that happening.
