I think I'm all set for the engine without QS. Just follow the procedure and set the WOT timing 4 degrees less than the spec in the manual. In my case, spec. is 18* BTDC minus 4*, so set to 14* BTDC cranking will result in 18* BTDC when engine is running.
On the engine with QS I will need to first disable the QS and then use the same 14* cranking to get 18* running. Is that correct?
I have the information needed to disable the QS. I usually use Daselbee's method if the boat is in the water but these are on stands so it is not as easy to start the engine and let it run until QS shuts off.

Thanks.

Yes thats it set to 14 when cranking.
Idle always down when motor warm and in water of course.
Nothing better than getting a motor to idle so low you think its stalled but it still keeps on going
