Hello,
.
I currently have a 20 foot 2002 Larson V-hull on a single axle trailer. The magic tilt trailer has an adjustable axle. When I bought the boat, I had to move the bowstop forward to bring the transom over the rear support bunks and then also move the axle forward to get the tongue weight into proper range.

The eyeball test suggests that I could use a longer tongue as the boat seems a tad bit close to the truck. I can drop the tailgate and still have room to stand in the water and winch up the boat, but it looks closer than normal (I have yet to actually launch and retrieve the boat with this setup). Is there a rule of thumb for how close the bowstop/boat can be to the truck? It just seems a little close to me.

Thanks for any suggestions or guidelines.

Should be good to go. Especially if you have room with the tailgate down. You are prolly just used to the original length... Get us a pic and then we can really tell you how it looks :)

Re: question re: bowstop distance to truck

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I don't have a picture. When I bought the boat, it was hanging way too far off the back of the trailer, so I've moved it as far forward as I can and it now has good transom support.

This weekend, I'll see how it does in backing it up at sharp angles with the trailer "jack-knifed" so to speak. Just want to see how close the boat is to the truck bed in that case. Would love to upgrade to a longer, tandem axle trailer, but not feasible at this time!

Thanks again..

Just make sure your winch handle is pointed towards the tailgate.
