Hello, I have done some searching on this site re: the rebuilding of trim cylinders. I have a 1986 XR2 150, and the trim bleeds down with no visible external leaks.

I have some experience in previously changing out the pump cartridge on this design, but realistically how difficult is getting at the O-rings/seals to overhaul the trim cylinders/tilt ram? If anyone has done it, is it a reasonable job for the DIY-er, or are there any special tools/considerations that might make it best to leave for the professional?

Thanks for any thoughts/replies..

Re: Question re: integral trim cylinder rebuild

I'm guessing you have similar PTT as me.I've got eaton motor (square) with 3 ram system on 88 V6.
Have you checked all the basics?manual release valve closed, fluid full,no air in system. If so you then need to remove port trim rod and inspect check valve for debri and clean. Also check seal in lid and o rings. If all is clean when checked, then next step is a big job.
