Hi, I have a 1987 115. Upon buying the motor, I replaced the pump motor and cartridge. It will now tilt all the way up and in and out of the trim range per normal with no bleeding down or loss of downward pressure. However, when engaged within the transom brackets, you can pull backwards/up on the motor about 2 inches or so, which seems to result in it trailing out when coming off higher speeds. I have bled the system and the pump reservior is full.
Also, I noticed that when the motor is tilted up outside the transom brackets, I can apply downward pressure and push the engine down until it engaged the trim rods, after which it will not go down and will hold. The manual release knob is closed/turned fully CW. It seems that for whatever reason the tilt ram or pump is not holding the engine down and is allowing backwards/reverse play, which I assume is not normal?
Since I have replaced the pump and cartridge, could I have an internal leak in the tilt ram? How does the integral trim utilize reverse lock?
Thanks for any and all suggestions and help!
