Hello, I have several cracks located at the rear of my boat. A couple of them are 4 inches in length and wider than normal stress cracks. I've read a little on the whole process of repairing them, however I still have questions before I attempt to fix them =) I haven't dug down into the cracks yet to see the extent of the damage, however I do believe I will have to do more than minor gel coat repair work. My question is, if I replace the fiberglass with mat and resin, do I still need to gelcoat on top afte replacing? Also, do I need to replace all of the fiberglass down to the core? Please clarify this for me

Thanks,
Chris

I think the best way to do this is to take your boat to a repair facility, and get yourself a free estimate. If they think its an easy fix, than you should be able to do it. If it requires reglassing and gelcoat, then maybe they should do it. If you have insurance, they might pay for it. Its worth a try?
