Question regarding wood used in new Sea Ray

My cousin is looking at a new 2018 Sea Ray 210 SPX (I think those are the letters ;) ). He's also considering the 190. They are decent looking boats but it's clear there is some wood wrapped in glass used in the construction.

Is this the standard for Sea Ray entry level models and is there a concern with this down the road?

Check the brochure and other product information. Most boat manufacturers have switched to pressure treated wood (KDAT) where they use wood in their construction. It will be either ‘perma panel’ or ‘Greenwood XL’.

Many of the major boat brands still use wood as the ‘bones’ of the structure and for backing materials.

So, yes a common material and practice, not just for Sea Ray.

Here is a Sea Ray Factory Tour Video . . .

These pics from the video look like a cruiser hull structure and layup . . .

With proper maintenance and care, wood is not a problem. The hull will last longer than its intended design life

Thanks guys. After watching the video it makes me think that my Crown has similar wood in the hull construction under the fiberglass liner. In the 190 and 210 SPX models we looked at the resin/cloth that was evident in some under-deck areas looked quite a lot rougher. Fiberglass strands at the ends of a sheet were not smoothed down but were coated with epoxy - was thinking this could be a route of moisture intrusion if something bumped the fiber and cracked it off.

Anyway, the quality control of the build looks solid and should provide a long lasting boat.
