when returning home from day of boating washing the boat down, should i always flush the out drive? mostly salt water??

Yes. Salt water is very corrosive.

I flush my motor after EVERY use, regardless of salt or fresh water. Salt water can destroy an engine quick, but in fresh water, you can still get sand and debris in the engine. It's always good to flush it.
