Guys, I'm excited to post that we bought "Gertrude" a '85 Bayliner Capri with 125 Force outboard over the weekend from a good friend of mine who's the original owner. The boat was purchased by my friend new in 1985 and has been used in the summers for the past 27 years by her family. Otherwise it's been in dry storage all it's life. Everything is original on the boat and it's in great condition minus a few small wear and tear items.

I'm new to Force motors but not new to engines and turning wrenches. She and I took the boat out this past weekend for a bit just so I could become familiar with it. The lake was smooth and the boat ran great reaching a steady speed of 37mph with spikes to 40mph (according to the speedo on the boat). I do have a few questions for the experts on here if you guys have the time:

*The engine title says Force Model 1258X5A but it lists it at 85HP. The cover also says Force 125. Do I have a 125HP or 85HP motor?
*According to the records with the boat the gear lube and plugs were changed in 2008. Should I change them now as preventative maintenance or leave be?
*No record of an impeller change in recent years. Should I change it as well?
*Any other preventative maintenance you guys recommend?

Thanks for any help and I've attached a couple of pics of the ole girl...

Re: Questions about Gertrude - Bayliner/Force

It is a 125. The 85 was a three cylinder engine. Change the lower unit oil. clean the plugs, change the water pump impeller, and change the fuel pump diaphragm and gasket. Then you should be good to go. Fuel/oil is 50 -1 or 1 pint TCW-3 per 6 gallons of gasoline (48 to1). Take it easy for the first tank until some fresh oil gets into the internals
