Questions about testing trim/tilt motor

Im working with a power trim, hydraulic pump motor that I can seem to get working. It didnt work in the boat, so I removed it and tried to test it on the bench with no luck. I took the motor apart and all the internals look good, and when I hook it up to power is were Im confused.

Heres a pic of the whole unit

Heres the part that is confusing me. The 3 red circles all share a common ground. the black wire that connects to the outside of the motor, and the green and blue wires that go to the coils inside the motor. Is that how it is supposed to be? I connected the black wire to - on my battery and when I connect the + to either green or blue it sparks and shorts out. Im also confused as to how this solenoid works.

Ayuh,... That says it's Shorted, Internally...
It Should work when jumpered that way,... Blue is Up,.. Green is down...
