So i went and looked at a boat the other day with vp570 and duoprop. Both original with boat in 93 with 1100 hours. Never owned and have little experience with outdrives. Mech said it was a dp_c. Is this a 290? Are they good? Any thing to look for? Parts hard to find? What is the difference between dp-a or b or c? I'm sure i will have further questions. Thanks though.

Keep in mind there is a lot more to look at too than just the outdrive before you make an offer, especially being it's a '93. Motor condition, compression check, pull the dipstick and see the condition of the oil. Is it milky or clean? Transom, any rot? Soft spots in the floor? When was the boat last used? Was it winterized properly? You get the picture. May not hurt to pay for an inspection. Can't answer you original question. Someone will. Good luck..

The DP-C is just a newer version of the 290 DP. You can tell the difference between the 290DP and the DPA and up by the top cap and back cover
Between the A,B, and C version the drive itself looked the same, but the trim system changed and lockdown mechanism was finally done away with in the C model.

The drives are great drives, but like anything else, they're only as good as the maintenance it was given since 93.

Re: questions before i make offer

Thanks for the quick replies. I am very familiar with boats and fairly familiar with inboard engines. Those don't worry me unless there is a specific problem with vp motors. Outdrives i guess is my main concern because i have never had one. I heard good things about 290s but didn't know if this was one or not. I guess as far as maintenance i kind of have to take their word? Paint was crappy looking on the drive but much newer ones looked just as bad.
