Questions on condition of 1988 Alpha One outdrive

Hi,

Been lurking for a while researching. I am considering an offer on a 21' 1988 Sea Ray Seville cuddy. She still has the original 4.3LX V6 motor and its outdrive, according to seller.

We hauled her today to have a look and this is the state of the stern drive. I wasn't sure what to make of it. It looks like years of protective paint peeling away, with no obvious severe corrosion. She's kept on a rack, has had about 20hrs in salt water over 2 years, prior to that was a freshwater boat.

My humble question is, is this an immediate walk away or is this kinda ok for age? A replacement outdrive isn't necessarily a deal killer since the rest of the boat is in great condition but I'd prefer a season or two's safe use first.

Bilges were dry, bellows rubber was fresh, transom seemed ok, motor was in outstanding shape.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

In the 4th pic? Yeah, a big one, good inch or so. I initially thought it was a badly-painted inspection port...

That would qualify as "severe corrosion" in my book...
Can't imagine that would happen in 20 hours of salt. I'd be nervous about the structural integrity.

Yep. I think the seller (he's only had it 2yrs) is misinformed boat's past.

I don't think it'd be a terrible project for someone. Rest of the boat isn't bad. I'm just not in a position to take that on at the moment.

Thanks for the guidance here, all.
