I just inhearatred a 1979>50hp merc 4cyl. (and boat>oh joy) after starting I noticed that it took about seven seconds to get water to the **** hole. (good strong stream ) After about five min. of running at 1200 rpm I stuck my hand under the **** stream and panicked as the water was HOT!
Having owned four older 50 to 90 hp merc's over the years, I have never had one that pissed HOT water.
I let the engine cool and restarted it, again it took five to seven seconds to get water to the **** hole, I let the engine run at 1200 rpm, no load, and took a temp. reading at the **** hole, to my suprise, although it seemed HOT, it was only 115 deg. I let it run at idle and it went up to 122 deg.
Shut the engine down and re-started, again five to seven sec. on water to **** hole and 115 deg on water temp..
Question???? Do I have any worries here, or is these two conditions normal for this engine??
Thanks

Well its good that you have a good stream coming out. At idle speed. You should be able to cup your hand and hold the water for a second without it scalding your hand. But really you need to feel the block and see if it is really hot. If so you may have a blockage somewhere/something clogged or a bad water pump. Check that and see what ya got.

Are you running in the water, on a flusher or in a tub?
7 seconds seems way to long to me.

You know what..??? It should be a little quicker then that. I bet you got something slowing it down.
