This is the first year I,ve owned a boat and I not sure exactly how to winterize it. I have a 1977 mercury 20hp motor. The motor has a flush plug on the lower part of the motor. Is this where I drain the gear oil and add new oil?

Re: Questions on winterizing motor

There's a lot of threads on basic winterizing info. The "basics" are very simple: put stabilizer in the fuel and run the engine long enough to make sure the stabilized fuel is in the carb., change the lower unit lube to make sure there's no water in there, fog the engine and store upright to make sure all water drains out of the cooling system. SIngle carb engines - often recommended to run it dry of fuel. Multiple carb. engines - never recommended to run dry, but rather, make sure it's running on stabilzed fuel before storage.

There's more detailed procedures depending on the motor and/or the boat itself. Do a search on "winterize" and I'll bet you find what you need to know.
