Questons about Anodes

I recently replaced the Anodes on my 1986 Alpha One (Gen 1) out drive, the trim tab and the rectangular anode mounted on the very bottom of the drive, the old anode in this location had a gasket between the anode and the where it mounted onto the drive. The new anode did not have the gasket with it and the old one fell apart, my question is why do I need the gasket, is it that important that I should make or find a new one? Besides replacing the anodes and checking the ground straps is there anything else I should do to make sure the anode system is working perfectly?

Don is that info also correct for a 2000 alpha 1 gen II drive? The download fo number 14 manaul list section 7, but the section is not in the downloaded manual itself. If not do you have a link? Greatly appreciated Ike

Thanks Don that will help a lot, I can't find the gasket in I Boats parts finder so maybe I will just buy some gsaket material and make one, pretty simple to do. I think it should of came with the new anode but I guess not.

Don, thanks for the link. That worked fine. Interesting the section is in the bookmark but is missing. It all downloaded fine but the manual ends with section 6. Unless the download went wacky, it is missing and did not realize it until this post.
