Hey folks, I bought a new prop from Propco Propellers a few weeks ago and they had to send me out a new "castellated washer/nut" a few days later to enable installation. I installed it, and while getting ready to go to the lake later this afternoon, I notice that the prop has some fore n aft play in it - about a 1/4 inch. I didn't notice this on the other prop...is this normal? There is no play as far as twisting goes, just up and down on the shaft...
The only way I see of correcting it would be to get a thicker thrust washer, or maybe an additional one?
Thanks for any advice!

Every prop I have has a little bit of play even my brand new one for my etec.right from the factory.

Is it play in the prop or output shaft? The prop shouldn't move on the shaft but the shaft will have a small amount of thrust. If the play is in the prop on the shaft try reusing the old mounting hardware

1/4 of an inch play is quiet a bit. Like Sprojake said, try using the old mounting hardware. My old 1977 Evinrude has less than 1 mm of play when i push and pull on the prop :)

Some minimal prop play is normal.ive seen on some sites 1/4 to 5/16ths.personally ive seen on mine about 1/16th.evinrude says there will be minimal play but no set number. If your really worried use a thicker spacer.

Unfortunately, using the old mounting hardware isn't an option. Whereas the original prop had an insert type thing that fit into the prop and onto the shaft, this new prop doesn't use one - it fits directly onto the shaft. What I think I need is a thicker thrust washer...
