well, i broke down for the first time on tuesday, anchored in the bay, all alone, dark. no juice to get the engine running. i have 2 batteries with a switch, but not knowing how old the batteries are, thinking of just replacing them.

20' center console, 150 hp johnson, ff, gps, vhf, spreader lights, cd/radio. i believe its all wired to run off both batteries (nothing is dedicated to just one battery).

suggestion on buying 2 new batteries? i don't want to re-wire, just throw them in. never done it, so no idea size, amps, etc.

thanks-

Re: Quick Battery Question

I would make sure to get deep cycle /starting batteries.this way you get the best of both worlds.I always get Nautilus.i am sure there are many brands that are similar quality.Kmart usually carries them.Charlie

Re: Quick Battery Question

My rig is two deepcycle batteries up front for trolling motor, front fishfinder lights and horn. My rear(Main?)battery is a marine cranking for the engine. Also on the rear battery I added my GPS and a fishfinder. I feel the draw from these appliances is minimal. I like having a cranking battery without out much else on it for the security of a fresh start when needed.

Re: Quick Battery Question

matt - Do yourself a favor and get a master switch after you get your new batteries. Wiring instructions come with the switch & it is not that difficult. That way you will be able to control which battery is in use or being charged. You can draw off of one or the other or both. Cost should be less than $20.00 & sure beats the cost of being towed.
