Re: quick i/o fogging oil question

Matt and Gary,

The throttle body procedure that I mentioned in "Fuel-Injected Fogging" was my idea, but I have not actually tried it. However, the basic idea was confirmed by a Volvo owner in "MerCruiser 7.4LX Winterization". Instead, I am planning to winterize the engine using the MerCruiser procedure that Gary provided. Fogging through the fuel line not only coats the cylinder walls, but the fuel injection system as well. At least that's my understanding.

Matt, my plan is to winterize on Saturday. I'm in Annapolis also, by the way.

a little worried now. i helped my buddy winterize last week, and we sprayed fogging oil into the throttle body throat for a few minutes (smoked white from the exhaust) and killed the engine.

did we hurt anything? or did we just not provide as much protection as the merc procedure?

thanks-

The pupose of fogging is to coat the internal parts to help prevent corosion. I have used 2 cycle oil, marvel mystery oil & power steering fluid. When you see a lot of white smoke, shut her down. In the spring the white smoke will return for a few minutes after you first start...this is a good sign that it was fogged correctly.

Re: quick i/o fogging oil question

After fogging with the engine running, I take out each spark plug and squirt fogging fluid in each cylinder. I've been doing this for 30 years...no problems.
