Quick Question On "Primer/Choke" Key

When you need to start (when turning key don't do it) should you hold the key in while turning --or push key in-let out- then turn key
It seems like i'm flooding the carbs some what when i hold in & turn, starts but is really reved up for a few seconds-
BTW- i'm talking about a 1987 70 hp Johnson so i guess this is the right place to ask?

if it will start without pushing the key in. don't. which ever way that works with your motor.

It might have the Quickstart feature in the power pack, if so, it starts up at higher rpm for a second or two then drops the rpm to idle.

On mine I push the key in for a few seconds then try turning the key, if it doesn't fire up I bump the key in a couple times,

start over again if it didn't catch,

once it fires I keep bumping the key in to keep it going, after about 30 seconds it runs by itself.
Get the factory service manual, its all in there.
