Quick question

I have a 1996 Evinrude 90hp (e90tleda) that I would like to set the timing on using Joe Reeves method. Does my motor have the QuickStart feature? I have read in other post about a black/white wire from a temperature sensor to the power pack, my manual does not show this. The only temp sensors I have seen are in the head and have a single tan wire coming from them.

Re: Quick question

You do not have QuikStart.

Unless you or someone else has had the ignition system apart, resetting the timing without the proper inductive timing light, test wheel and test tank is ill-advised.

Re: Quick question

Thanks for the reply. I have recently rebuilt the carburetors and was going to do a link & sync. Checking the timing and setting the maximum spark advance are listed as a step in the manual. Are you suggesting I don't need to to it?

Re: Quick question

NO! I am suggesting that you leave the timing to the professionals unless you have the right equipment to set it correctly. If you have not screwed with the timing, leave it alone.

Re: Quick question

Unless you:

Replaced the Flywheel
Replaced the Timer base
Replaced/Rebuilt the powerhead.
Fiddled with the full advance stop.

All you really need to do is link & sync the carb to the timing. Max timing won't change with any of those linkages.
