Hi Guys,

I bought a new Quicksilver 851052Q Fuel Sender, off eBay, for a steal. The thing arrived this morning, and I found that the instruction sheet is missing. This has all of the correct measurements in a chart for depth of tank vs. length of float arm etc. , as well as the wiring diagrams.

I just tried to contact the guy, but who knows how often he looks at his email. I have been searching online for a copy of the instructions, but no luck yet.

Does anyone have or know where to obtain the installation instructions?

Thanks Guys

Re: Quicksilver 851052Q Fuel Sender Instructions

I found, online a set of directions for a teleflex. They appear to be similar in design, and I think the measurement parts will work out.

But am hanging up on the wiring. I know one is ground and one is the sender lead to guage. The problem is the pivot switch has two leads that rise up to the under side of the mounting flange, that you must connect to the posts yourself. On the top of the unit is "S" and "-" . I get that, but how does one know which lead up from pivot goes to "S" and which one goes to "-" ?

I have kept reading about the consequences of miswiring, destroying the sender.

Any Help?

Re: Quicksilver 851052Q Fuel Sender Instructions

I was able to find a couple of different manufacturer's online instructions, but not the Quicksilver. I called a marine supply, and sweet talked the girl into faxing me some instructions from thier stock. I really hope that she doesn't get in trouble, and I hope my wife doesn't find out about the dinner date I have for Tuesday night! Ha Ha Ha!

I am posting these in case anyone ever needs these:

Don S. - I have been saving anything technical ( manuals, diagrams, etc.)that I come across while working on boats and trucks, someday I should figure out how to provide it all, so that you can save it in Adults Only. Might save some folks alot of searching time.

Here is a wiring diagram for a typical fuel sender. Can't make it any simpler than that.

Re: Quicksilver 851052Q Fuel Sender Instructions

Hey, Thanks...

The part that I was hanging up on was that the sender didn't have that type of connections. Meaning center post and ground spade. The arm pivot just has two wires that come up to the flange, You have to make those two connections yourself. Then connect the boat ground and sender wire, to those two studs.

There are warnings on all senders about incorrect wiring will destroy the sender. So until I got my hands on an actual Quicksilver instruction set, I couldn't be sure. As it turns out either wire can go to ground and the other to the sender, but the thing that I also didn't know was that there is a top and bottom to that pivot arm. If installed upside down ( there are no markings on it, must compare to photo in instructions ) empty tank would read full and vice versa....

Thanks again

The wires from the swing arm assembly can be hooked to either terminal on the flange. The swing arm with the sensor is nothing more than a variable resistor -- polarity of no concern. You do have to connect the flange to ground when finished with the installation.
