Quicksilver O/B Control Unit Issues

Hi,
I have a Quicksilver Commander 2000 Outboard control unit on my boat. Works quite well in many aspects, however the neutral idle control does not work (or I am a complete moron and have no clue how to use it, either is a distinct possibility).

This is what my control unit looks like. It has the lever on top of the unit which I assume is for use as the idle control, but it seems to do nothing. There is a knob on the front of the unit which has something to do with throttle tension? Not quite sure the use of that either. My other ski boat has an I/O and the controls for that are dead simple compared to this. I am a fairly novice boater so any tips tricks or information would be helpful.

I have found the parts manual for this control box, but if this is a case of operator error, then there is no reason for me to take the thing apart. If I have to, no big deal.

Thanks

I happen to use that controller.

The knob on the front is a friction control if you have a issue with it backing off while running you can add friction to hold it in place, and the warm up leaver only works if your in neutral. You may or not need it on a cold start. But to use lift it up till it gets stiff then a bit more and when its starts watch your RPM`s and lower to around 2000 till it will idle on its own, normals 30 seconds or less. Personally I don't use it, if you push in on the key switch that will bump up the idle till it warms enough to run on its own. Once or twice will do it most times. Pushing in the key switch activates the primer system.

Ok so I know its broken then, because lifting the lever does absolutely nothing, and it would be nice to have because my outboard is a little cold blooded it seems. Was out on the lake fishing last weekend and she didnt want to run for me very well. I guess I will mess around with it a little bit and see if there is something I can do to fix that problem.

Does anyone know where you might find a repair manual for these things?

Re: Quicksilver O/B Control Unit Issues

When I first got my boat the controller was doing the same thing, I would lift the handle and nothing would happen. The interesting part was that I could lift it even if the controller was in gear. I took it apart and the handle is attached to a circular piece of metal with a semi -circle cutout at the bottom and a roller bearing type thing that was supposed to be in the cutout but it had slipped behind the main disk. After getting the roller under the disk, it worked great. Hopefully yours is something similar and similarly easy to fix.
