I bought a boat that worked good for about two rounds in the bay. Now I have a 305 that I can use for an anchor. The boat is a 23' bayliner. I don't have the cash to buy a new motor so I'm going to put in a car motor. It's a 350 but I don't know the horsepower. 3800 lbs is the dry weight but with fuel and our gang its around 5000lbs. Mu current prop is 14.5x17x3. My tqueystion is what is the best prop to keep down the rpms as it is a car motor and still have adequate power to pull tubes and boards. I think that I would be happy with top speed of around 40 to45. Or I could switch it out for long runs. Not sure where to start. Have to use this motor. No other options for the forseeable future.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Yer gettin' the cart ahead of yer horse....

Get it Runnin', 'n Try it with the prop that's on it....

With those baseline numbers, you can see whether to go bigger, or whatever...

The prop pickin' process don't change just because of yer choice of motor....

The car motor is about the same anyway just put in a truck/rv cam and change out the freeze plugs with brass ones. All you accessories should switch over.

Re: quite a mess

wouldnt max rpm have something to do with prop choice? Never dealt with this before but it seems logical that rpm and speed would have something to do with choosing the right prop.

Max RPM and Speed numbers are needed, yes, but from the boat's actual performance in the water.
