I'm new at this, having just bought my fisrt boat (a small Runabout). What is the best way to keep a CB and AM/FM Cass from getting moisture damage. I have a JVC AM/FM /Cass and a Uniden CB that were salvaged from an old car. Can I use them? Thank for the assist.

Re: Radio/CB

Welcome.

Electronics not made for marine use typically won't stand up to marine use very well.

However, they can be used. Typical vehicle installation utilizes a "chassis ground" for everything... radio, cb, antenna. This is not possible with fiberglass boats, so you will need to lengthen the stock ground wire from the 1 foot or so it came with, so that it goes back to the battery.

If you can, build an electronics box. Does not have to be big, just try to keep the water away. Freshwater is much easier on the electronics than salt water is.

I put a car-stereo in my boat a couple years ago, and haven't had any trouble (yet).

Anyway, an enclosure is nice, but you'll certainly need a cover, such as
this one
