I have an 89 raven runabout. I currently have a tape player with speaker in the dash of my boat. I am doing a winter project and adding a new cd player with all new speakers. Can someone tell me if this is going to be a huge deal? Or if it's something that should be done some what easy. I am pretty handy so I know my way a little, I just didn't want to get myself halfway through and then realize I might drink my way out of this problem. Thanks for any heads up!

Just use grease filled caps to make your connections. Wouldnt want water getting in there.

Steamer
Know nothing about your boat or use.
I am gessing it is a inland boat and you do not have a compass.
If you do have a compass them be very carfull when you replace speakers that they do not affect your compass.
The radio/cd player about the same for boats. Best to wire thru an ingition switch on the accessory line. If the cd player also has a radio don't forget the radio memory and clock draw power with the key off. In a car used very often no big deal but on a boat not used for long time durning winter it can kill your battery or at least require charging more offten. You may want to disconnect the battery or turn your battery switch to off when not in use durning the winter. Still should charge battery one time a month.

If you are adding a new CD player and speakers you should receive instructions and diagrams with them. As mentioned above, keep speakers away from your compass and use marine grade wire and connectors. The radio memory draws a very small amount of power and it's a real inconvenience to restore all the settings each time you use the boat. I would go ahead and connect it to an "always hot" source. You can change it later if it becomes a problem.

Two things that should still work even when the battery switch is OFF - your bilge pump AND your radio memory.
