Raising/Lowering Lower Unit

I currently have a "Up/Down" switch that raises and lowers my lower unit. It even works when the ignition is off. The "Up/Down" switch has 3 wires coming from it. I would like to add a gauge so I know what position my lower unit is in. My gauge has 4 connection points: "S", "I", "GND", and "Light". Is it possible to intersect the "Up/Down" switch wires and hook up my gauge? If so, which wires go to the gauge?

There are 2 senders on the sides of the gimble ring. The port (L) side is the trim limit, and the starboard (R) is the sender for the gauge. Im not sure on your boat where it hooks to. Mine hooks up right b the main breaker in the engine compartment.
Either way they dont hook directly to the trim or tilt switches.

See this link.

Re: Raising/Lowering Lower Unit

Guys - I'm completely confused on how my lower unit raises and lowers. My switch at the helm makes the lower unit go up and down. The 3 wires from the switch run to ground and one each to the left/right side of the silenode which sets on top of the hydrallic pump. When I press the up or down button the pump activates and my lower unit responds. The trim/tilt senders on the lower unit aren't even connected to anything. Knowing that my unit works my question is "Can I hook up a guage to show the lower unit position with the way it is currently hooked up?" The gauage has a Ground, Sender, Ignition, and Light pole.
Any help would be appreciated.

Read the responses already given. A trim gauge does NOT use the wiring for the trim pump. It connects to power and a sending unit that senses the position of the drive. If there is no sending unit on the drive, you have to install one.

There ^^^^^^^^^^ is your problem. It works on the tilt only. If the sender and limit are not hooked up then they are not working, they probably need to be replaced. See my previous post for that.
Once you replace and adjust them then the gauge and limit will work.
As for the gauge, its all in your post. Do whats on the terminals.

Re: Raising/Lowering Lower Unit

a couple of quick questions.
does your drive already have trim switches on sides of gimbal ring?yes or no.
is your trim switch of the 3 press button variety?
will get back in due course once questions answered.

Nope.... That's the Job of the Sender...
