i just got my boat back from being repaired and its fine now. but when i was at the marina the guy that fixed my boat told me if i took a 1 1/4 inch block of wood and put it on top of the transom and then put the motor on tighting the clamps and then drill holes and bolt it to the transom i could pick up about 5mph more on my boat and plane off easier with less rpms. i have a 15hp four stroke honda on a 14ft mirrocraft boat.the motor is a long shaft and now the plate on the motor is even with the bottom of the boat.has anyone out there tried anything like this and what was the results.

yes, it gets the foot out of the water, less drag. just make sure it is still picking up cooling water. it is called proper set up.

Re: raising motor on transom

That's where I'm at now with my 18hp four stroke on an 18' jon boat.
I noticed a slight improvement there, from where it was before, directly on the transom.

I added some plates, for reinforcement, front and back on the transom, and drilled
holes for add'l bolts.

Worked for me. Good luck!
