Hello all, I need some advice on this topic. I am borrowing a 16FT SeaNymph from a friend to take on a salmon fishing trip, I recently picked up a 15HP long shaft mariner. The river I will be fishing has tons of logs and stumps in it so I need to raise my motor up approximately 6 inchs, but I don't want to build anything permanently on the back of my buddy's boat. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any quick fix ideas? All advice is greatly appreciated.

The fastest way would be to install a transom mount, usually are 5 inches, unless custom built. Something like this, don't ask me who sells them. Will need to drill some holes to secure mount against transom. Check with friend if he will have an isssue about it.

Are you wanting to raise the motor just to avoid underwater obstacles?

Or does the boat have a short (16' ) transom ?

If this boat has a 20" transom, use the motor as is, and just tilt the motor into the shallow water drive position.
This will tilt and raise the motor enough to avoid most all obstacles, and to protect the prop.

If the boat has a 20" transom, and you raise the motor 5", you will severely effect the performance, and run the risk of not providing enough cooling water to the motor.
