Hello.
I have a 16 foot 1957 Herter's flat bottom fiberglass boat that has an aluminium rear frameplate on the transom.
In order to get the cavitation plate of my 1957 35 seahorse an inch under the bottom I will have to raise the transom about 3 inches.
Is there anybody out there who has done something simular?
Please tell me about the right way to do this.
Thanks for any thoughts and opinions.
Rolmops.

Re: Raising transom.

Befor I got into raising the transom to meet the majic 1" rule, I would try out what you have got. If it performs reasonably well - forget the rule.

I have a 13" alumnium boat with a Johnson 9.9 LONG SHAFT on it and the plate is way below the bottom of the boat. Yes I could spend a $100 or so and convert to the short shaft but mine performs just fine. It gets on plane relatively easily with the wife and I aboard which is all I want that boat to do.
