Yesterday i was changing my lower unit oil and noticed something wrong. First off, i had water in my oil. Second, when i pulled my drain/vent screw i noticed that the previous owner had TWO o-rings(the blue washers) in each hole!!! Would this be the cause of my water entry? I would think that if there were two in each the screw wouldnt seat right agianst the housing?? However, i need confirmation from somebody on here that that could be my issue?? :confused:Thanks for the help!!!

Only ways to tell if the seals caused the problem would be to refill it and run it with new seals - or pressure and vacuum tests.

You can run the pressure test with any pump that has a gauge and will hold constant pressure for 15 or more minutes. Just empty the gearcase and find a fitting to put in either the vent or fill hole, take the pressure up to 12 to 15 pounds and let it sit for 15 minutes. If the air leaks, you can submerge the case and see where the leaks are coming from.

I use a MityVac model 04050, so that I can run both vacuum and pressure tests from the same device.
