I have a 1987 Glastron 175 speed boat with a gas tank in the hull and a 1988 mercury 90 hp outboard. I ran out of gas and after filling the tank back up it won't go over 5 mph without contnually squeezing the primer ball evey 30 seconds or so, and then it runs fine. Any ideas? Thanks,Rodney

Rodney, it sounds like your fuel pump went bad. They are cheap to rebuild.

I thought of that but I thought that was too much of a coincidence. Is it possible that there is a filter down in the tank that is plugged.

If there was a restriction in the fuel tank, the primer bulb would go flat. You might check the fuel screen on the motor. Maybe it is partially clogged. Check the fuel pump's pulse hoses for breaks and leaks at the clamps. Maybe there is some junk in the fuel pump one-way valves.
