Can anyone tell me what range of years, and/or horsepower engines would be good for a parts engine? I have a 1974 mercury 150 h.p. inline-6. my serial number is 3913808. I need distributor parts now, but if going to try to find a parts engine would like for the majority of parts to be interchangable.

73-78 is essentially the same motor. Either in 79 or 80 (forgot which) these switched to ADI boxes like the v-6's and carb's were changed around the same time too.
Pistons and block are different for the 1500's and '78 1400 in that they have a "power port" that he 1150 and 900 don't have. All other parts are the same or at least will work in the case of carbs.
Lower units from any year 73 and up will work (except XS). I dunno bout earlier.
Around here I've found some complete parts motor for $300 or less.

1979 is when they went to ADI. 78 was the last year for the distributer motors.

Craig
