I've been trying to figure out what a 1997 Ranger R77 w/ 115 Envinrude would be worth. When using NADA it shows me a value of around 4,000. It show that if the boat has an astrick that the price includes boat, trailer, motor. This price just doesn't seem right at all. I have never seen a 97 ranger in the 4000 price range. Is this just one of those things...what people are willing to pay? Otherwise, am I using NADA wrong? Thanks

Re: Ranger Value

I agree that NADA is worthless when it comes to boats. If you look up what my 18horse mercury is worth it says it's like 150 bucks! I know I could easily get 5 or 6 hundred. Maybe more. I don't know where NADA gets thier info but it's way off. Maybe it has to do with all the folks that make up low bills of sale for tax purposes. Either way, if you can find a 97 ranger in good shape for 4 grand jump on it fast.

Re: Ranger Value

Yes, NADA is showing it with a smaller O/B. However, it's already including that smaller one in the pricing. How do I figure out exactly what this boat should be priced at? I'm looking at this 97, and would love to know what it was worth, so I'll be better able to determine if it's worth what they are asking. I guess it's more or less what I'm willing to spend.

Re: Ranger Value

IMO the best and sometimes only way to value something is to look at comps. Look around. Go on ebay and craigslist and see what else is out there. Doesn't have to be close to you to be a comparison (although it helps). For instance, i bought my boat recently about 3 hours away. It's an 89 Bass Tracker 1800TF with a 150 mercury on it. I know it needs a decent amount of work but it's not a complete mess. Even though NADA low retail is 1650 in good working order, I considered my 1500 dollar deal a great price. I was seeing similar boats in slightly better shape go for 3-4k and selling quickly. The only thing I could find in the 1500 price range was an old tin boat with maybe a 50 horse motor.

So my suggestion is to set it's worth on your own. Maybe use NADA for bargaining but for the most part just see what else you could buy for similar money. Personally, I don't care what NADA says if I'm selling my boat. I'm going to get what I can get. As the saying goes, "It's worth what someone is willing to pay". Perfect example. I bought a truck that I was willing to pay 19k for. Someone else really liked it and he was willing to pay 30k. He now owns a really cool truck! Good luck in your search. Hope you find a nice boat.
