Ok, the small little rat snake is back. The wife is so afraid of

snakes. Is there a real deterrent, or do I have to buy .22 ratshot?

Re: rat snake

Or just explain to the wife that rat snakes are a beneficial reptile to have around. They're not venemous and will only strike if provoked.Ask her if she'd rather have rodents running around.

Re: rat snake

Maybe you could just catch it and release it elsewhere.Otherwise, where there is one snake there are others.Just like the lizzards and geckos.

Re: rat snake

For the distance you have to get to use the rat shot effectively you might as well just pin in down with a forked stick..... pick it up and relocate it. They are good to control the field mice and moles.

I have gotten away from killing the non poisonous snakes and have just taken up relocation. Only the occasional slow one gets relocated by the lawn tractor (in pieces :^ ) ....... the poison ones and the aggressive ones such as water snakes get a few rounds of rat shot from a small 22 revolver. BTW the rat shot WILL ricochet back at you so be careful.

The solution could be sulfur (depending on where you are trying to keep him out of). It's cheap, works great, and is readily available. That said, I also catch and relocate them.
