Ratteling sound from engine

Posted this on another forum but I wanted to see if anyone over here has an opinion:

I have an 08 175BR, and the last few times I have taken her out, I have been hearing what I can best describe as a metallic ratteling sound coming from the engine between 4000 RPM and 4800 RPM (WOT). It sounds like it is coming from the engine, not the outdrive. All gages are reading normal, and the engine is running fine.

Before I take it to the dealer for warranty service, I was curious if anyone here has experienced this.

I think you might have hit it on the head. The sound didn't appear until I took it back to the dealer last year because it was idling rough.He adjusted the timing.
I know what detonation sounds like, as I am old enough to have owned a few carbuerated cars, an it does sound like that.

This was before I knew about the Idle speed mixture setting ( The one with the "Environmental Prostitution Agency" Tamper proof cover). I think I will take it back to the dealer and get the timing set back to factory specs, and deal with the rough idling on my own.

Detonation???

I 'second' that....

My 3.0L does not have a knock sensor, and I am guessing that your's lacks one also. If this were my question, I would try the next higher grade of gas...before I complained to the dealer.

E-10 gas has a tendency to 'lose' octane very quickly...which is why I use 89 octane all of the time!

Ayuh,... Well get it Fixed before you run it again,....
Detonation can cause a Total Melt Down in only a couple of minutes...
