Raw Water Pump Feeds

I have a 5.7GXI with a 2004 DPX out drive. This may seem like an odd question as I have not seen anyone ask it.

basically I have a priming issue with a new oem pump. I have read everything I can find.

My question is with the Muffs on a hose, water on, and the pump intake hose off the pump. Shouldn’t I get water winning out the feed hose?

additional info.

if I pressurize the system with everything hooked up using the flushing port I get water flow out the water intake ports but don’t seem to get water flow the other direction.

Thoughts? I am leaning toward some kind of blockage in the steering pump cooler.

Yes, provided the seal on the muffs is good. Having a flush valve which is spring loaded requires more pressure to over come

but don’t seem to get water flow the other direction.

The flush port has a check valve to keep water from going back to the drive. The one below is a Perko. If I installed one I would use 2 ball valves

This is currently stock so I don’t see a check valve. I have not had an issue getting water up to the pump in 15 years of use until now.

it also has a new OEM raw water pump now.

It back flushes but no water to the pump on hose pressure. I guess it’s to the shop for this one.

Did you install the hoses on the correct ports?
