How often (if at all) does the Raw Water Pump Impeller need to be replaced? The pump I am referring to is the one located on the engine.....not the O/D.

I have not seen much talk about this............just wondering as far as PM............not experiencing any problems.

I believe it's like on a car. Unless it leaks or wines, it's ok. This is my WAG until someone says different!

Re: Raw Water Pump Impeller

i think it's called the engine water circulateing pump. along with cobra 3.0's idea. if ya can feel it wobble w/o the belt on, i'd think that'd be a sign that it would be time to replace it. (spent bush)
mine wobbles a bit when running. but has no wobble when disconnected from the belt and no leaks (ie weep hole). when it comes out the weep hole. then it's past time to replace....i don't think there is any pm for this part that i'm aware of.......if there is, i want to be enlightened too.......

Assuming you are talking about the pump pictured, Ziggy is correct, it's called a cirulation pump.
No preventive maintenance on them, if they go bad, you replace them.

That's not what I m talking about...........

I have a thru-hull raw water inlet going to a pump on the engine............that's the pump I am referring to.

Ahhhhhh, you mean one similar to this one? If so, yes they have an impeller that needs replaced about every other year.

Yeah............that's the one.

Are the impellers hard to replace? Do you have to remove the pump? Guess it depends on if you can get to it...huh?

It's a lot easier to remove the complete pump (Bracket, pulley and all) than to try and do it in the boat. As I recall, you don't have much room beside and infront of the engine.

You're right Don.........not much room.

Think I am probably OK for another year. When I winterized this year, it pulled 5 gals of A/F from a bucket very quickly............barely gave me enough time to fog the engine before th bucket was empty!
