Today I was ready to start engine and get ready for summer. Just finished replacing manifolds, risers and thermostat. Everything looks good and motor cranked on quick. I had the muffs on drive as I usually do to test engine and cranked motor waiting for it to drop water under drive to show water pump is working. Nothing and I even removed the two hoses off of pump and its dry as a bone. So some how water is not making it to pump. What can i check for to figure out problem. Btw water pump is 2 years old so is fairly new.

Appreciate any tips to look for.

What does the impeller look like?

Should I check impeller if I'm not even getting water to the pump. Or how does the water pump work?

Could it be low water pressure from my home? I can practically cut water off by pinching it with 2 fingers.

This what I found, the impeller had a few missing fins.
I'm hoping this is my problem...

The impeller is probably the problem but always remember that if a pump has any air leaks on the suction side it is very doubtful if it will pump.

Make sure you have the hoses on right. It's easy to accidentally put the outlet hose on the inlet side of the pump.

Not only does that impeller need changed, you'll need to find those pieces of impeller that broke off.

1. If you don't have good water pressure and volume from your hose it isn't going to get water. The raw water pump relies on static water pressure (when in the water) to maintain good flow. It's hard to do on the hose.

Make you you find the pieces of the impellar that have broken off, especially the small spaces in the thermostat housing. You will have overheating issues if they clog up any downstream passages.
