Went out to the river today for a little bit and I am glad to report that the boat ran great after the long winter storage. The only thing not working was my fishing rod, I got skunked. When I got back to the launch there were some guys with these remote controlled boats. The things were about 3 feet long and had what amounted to high pro weed wacker two stroke engines in them. I am tellin ya these babys really moved across the water they are really neat. Some of these rigs cost as much as 2.500 dollars. They have a cable attached to the motor and run to the prop. Noise was unreal. I tell ya this looks like it could be real addicting. I had a good time just watching them run. Good guys too they helped me get the boat on the trailer so I did not have to even get my feet wet. :D I wonder if the wife would think 2000 is to much for a toy boat

-------------
Flathead

If you get to spend 2 grand on a toy boat, them she gets to spend 2 grand, maybe on a lawyer.

Re: Rc boats

Yeah, my grandson got one of those RC boats for Christmas and talked me into taking him to the Holiday Inn to try it out in their pool. How'd that work out? NOT TOO GOOD! It was too fast for the size of the pool and he kept jumping it up over the rim. I finally got him to leave before somebody came and kicked us out. Luckily it was cold and nobody was around.

Re: Rc boats

i had/built a everglades type boat from a kit by DUMAS,,an icon in r/c boats..

it was cool..!! made outta 1/8 birch 6 ply hobby plywood.. believe me,, i proverbial brick ah ah outhouse..

it ran on .40 glow fuel airplane motor an a reverse airplane prop.. bought them by the dozen.. could only find/buy them wood an the spray would literally eat the props up in notime...

it was fun ,,but bein' an r/c airplane flyer,, it got 'old' fast... but still a blast nonetheless..

took it to a tiny park pond ..it srceam across the surface.. run 'er up on shore bank an than back into the water like a 'bank turn'.. also there was always a water logged 16 ft. 2x6 always floatin' around.. hit that an go alittle airborne..

really wild.. drew every kid in the park.. they loved it more then me...

but you definately need a boat or somethin' to retreive it when the motor dies ... AN IT WILL..!!!

this pond was small enuff i would cast a weigthted trebel hook behind it ,,an reel it in...

BOY O' BOY,,you should see it go across when the pond froze.. an onland in snow..

why did i ever sell it...!!..?? ;)

Re: Rc boats

well, i don't have a fancy boat, but my little girl saw one in store, and wanted to get it so the 'big boat' would have a friend ;) my wife caved in and got it as a my xmas gift from daughter. it runs on 6 AA batteries. the children liked playing with it during xmas get together. everyone got to run it in the cattle pond back in the woods near inlaws. :)

I fly the rc planes. It isn't too expensive. You could get your first plane and radio gear for around 150.00.

Hey sloopy, I don't know what kind she has, but mine runs a pretty long time.

Mine is about 2 foot long or so.

Ofcourse, it ain't like having one with a gas motor, but it still is pretty neat. :)

Re: Rc boats

flathead, i use to have a hobby shop here in jacksonville and we were about 90% rc boats, some of the big hydros can come close to 100 mph. and turn almost that fast. they race them all over the country and have a lot of classes. i still got a 20 mono hull, a new 60 size hull, and two 1/8 scale hydros the nitro they use is upwards to 50%.

Re: Rc boats

Brett, the ones I saw were like the ones you describe. Flat out racing machines. If one of them was to hit you at speed it would kill ya. Definitly not something bought at toys are us.The guys running them said they race in Jersey, New York, maryland. They had some serious money tied up in these little boats. I was in awe when I saw how fast the things went and how well the guys could operate them.

-----------------
Flathead

Re: Rc boats

when they race they should be a member of IMPBA,or NAMBA, there are rules in place for the safety of people, ie they put up netting around the lake where people watch. still they are far from being toys, ive seen my share of fingers getting clipped from guys that don't watch whats going on. the props stick out the back some times as much as 5 or 6" they are made of brilumcopper and are razer sharp and paper thin, not to forget they can spin @ 60,000 rpm.
they are a lot of fun but hard to setup for true racing, and as fast as they go you have to control them from the bank with as many as 7 other boats in the same race.

Re: Rc boats

dang! 100mph.... i figure my line of sight for controlling one would be maybe a max of 200yds - at 100mph thats 4.3secs! LOL

- i guess if you take a sec to slap a horsefly/mosquito, your boat is splattered at the dam down lake a mi or two.

Re: Rc boats

Wow, 100 MPH, my RC sail boat manages about 3 yards a minute, but it's fun, handles just like a real sail boat, but, too many toys, not enough time.......
