OK so here's the deal. last year I got the motor to run right out on the lake for about 15 minutes last year. ever since it would start and run in low idle, it would go in to gear forward and reverse. Till it died at the end of the year and wouldnt start. I have no manual so it sucks, and i am a young guy with little cash. I have read a bunch of FAQ's and alot of other reading so i come here as a last resort. this year I took the carb off and apart and cleaned it very well I think. I also took the starter off and rebuilt parts of it since last year i over heated it and seezed it sort off, but works great today(after rebuild). And the carb seems ok, my problem is this:
I can start it and run it in low rpms I also can put it in gear. this year it is diffrent though. Last year when I have it full throttle it would just stay in low, now this year when I give it full throttle it dies out at about half throttle, last year in neutral it would get high rmps, but i didnt do it alot cause i know its bad. this year in nutral it again goes to about half throttle and dies out. I started out at about 40:1 ratio on the oil mixture then took it up to about 30:1 then i got home and found out i should be using like 24:1 but I can imagine that 6:1 diffrence making that big of a diffrence. also the top needle on the carb was about 3 and a half turns out from all the way in position, and I put it back at that but i also read tonight that it should be started at about 2 full turns out. SO What can I do. Please Help, I know theres a few Gurus out here that could help.

ok so I am not sure what happened to all the good posts and responses but I did what JB suggested and switched my needles to factory defualt and I have the right oil gas ratio, and the motor runs alot better now, thank you.

so now the new problem:
I thought the engine should have more power, so a friend held the engine at full throttle(which is pretty slow) and drove while I ajusted the upper need. This is whats wierd I was able to bring the needle all the way out and all the way in with out killing the engine, it han no effect on it.
Is my Needle bad?

a friend told me I might be able to make the needle might seal if i punch a hole in some leather and stick it threw and screw it down. is this a possible thing?

ok but thats not the question I asked, the uper needle is the full speed fast needle, the lower needle is the slow one. so the uper needle should react to being turned at wide open? right?
