hi for the person that said it wasn't possible because of the stroke and bore being different,in the mercury manual everything is the same but the main jet high speed (18hp 82mercury to a 25hp) so in this case is it possible... not a mechanic so some input would be thankful!

The main differance in a 18 and 25 in 1982 was the tuning pipe in the mid section and the jet the jet alone won't give you the power that comes from the snort pipe at about $170.00

hi what is a snort pipe?????and can it be replaced easily or is it a troublesome task,,,,,got motor for very little,so wouldnt put me out to do it if simple.and do you know if parts are easily to come by.or a list of part numbers if not to much trouble???????

his picked this motor up for free so this conversion will be the only expense....so pick up that plate and jet then should be good your saying?

Those are the only items I know of, I wouldn't buy the pipe new some of the marinas in your area should have a doner engine I think that the pipe is common to all 25's but you can ck that at the sight I gave you they have a great parts site for all Merc products
